Hotel Management & Catering Science

In Dawn of the Department of Hotel Management and Catering Science dates June 2004 in the Undergraduate course (B.Sc...)In Hotel Management and Catering Science comprising 44 students with following objectives

  • In July 2005 Diploma in Food Production course (DFP) in Hotel Management and Catering Science came in to existence. Today the department has grown up and boasts of 100 students, 5 teaching staff members headed by M. ABUTHAHIR.

    Diploma in Tourism management (DTM) an application oriented diploma course was introduced in this academic year (2009). It improves practical skill of the students on Front Office Management.


    In the year 2004 M.R. Group of Institute started B.Sc Hotel Management course to cater the rural peoples with high quality skilled persons, under consideration of in surrounded there is no any other catering colleges, peoples can be benefited to get a job in corporate level.

    The batch was started with 44 students; we have well equipped kitchen and other laboratories like Front office, House keeping, Restaurant. We sent students for training in two sessions one is winter (December to January) another one is summer (May to June). We sent students for training in through out Tamilnadu.

    In 2005 we admitted 65 students in B.Sc course, we sent students for winter summer training to through out south India, and in 2005 we have one another milestone - that we have started one year diploma in food production course with 34 students.

    In 2006 our third batch B.Sc course started with 57 students, In this year we have tied up with Raffles campus institute - Singapore, and we have conducted an education promotion programme by Mrs. Yeani Raffles's campus institute - Singapore. For the need of third year students we have purchased a three deck oven from Bangalore and its worth of Rs. 75000/. we have started one year diploma in food production course with 10 students

    In 2007 our fourth batch B.Sc course started with 36 students, our first batch has been successfully completed their studies with 100% placement .In this end of academic year we conducted campus interview by hotel cenneys gate way - Salem. We have opened an A/C restaurant. This year we sent students for training in through out India.
    we have started one year diploma in food production course with 04 students. Anandha Inn - Pondicherry, Hotel Nala - Namakkal.

    In 2008 our fourth batch B.Sc course started with 24 students, In this year we have tied up with ISC Education centre - Singapore, and we have conducted an education promotion Programme by Mr. Nicholas Tan Benk Kong - ISC Education centre Singapore. We also sent students for ODC to Trichy, Tanjore and Chidambaram area hotels.

    In 2009 our fourth batch B.Sc course started with 10 students, and in 2009 we have one another milestone - that we have started one year diploma in Tourism Management course with 57 students. one year diploma in food production course with 33 students.

    In 2010 our fourth batch B.Sc course started with 07 students, and in we have one another milestone - that we have started one year diploma in Tourism Management course with 20 students. One year diploma in food production course with 04students.

    In 2011 our fourth batch B.Sc course started with 20 students, and in we have one another milestone - that we have started one year diploma in Tourism Management course with 30students. One year diploma in food production course with 09students.

    We have adequate faculty members to meet academic requirements. They are working to reach management vision. We have enough competencies to train students for their better performance in different categories. All the faculties are competent enough to fulfill academic research requirement of the department.

    The department of hotel management and catering science has state of art lab. This has been constructed and equipped with modern equipped at a cost of about 10 lakhs. Additional equipments are added year by year to meet academic of the students

    The department has organized visits to star category hotels in a regular basis. Our student's visited industries like leading star hotels.

    The staff and students have also participated in various seminars, symposium conducted by universities and affiliated colleges.

    Students are being regularly sent to star hotels for industrial training.

    Student seminar
    All the under graduate students are instructed to prepare one seminar in each paper. Seminar is compulsory for all UG students.
